The intention was to create an episodic arrangement for string orchestra using Jobim's melody. The lyric is a litany of the procession of life's events. The changing character of the string section mimics the sequence of images in the song.

A transcription created for Stanley Clarke's touring band. Stanley originally recorded this tune on his group project, "Vertu". This nine-minute tour de force was used as the opener for his live shows. A later version was provided with an arrangement for a five-piece horn section.
